Our Process
Good design isn't linear because every project is different and iterative. Nevertheless, the questions that lead to a successful outcome are remarkably consistent. Our process provides the structure to ask those questions at the right time, explore possibilities thoroughly, and move forward with confidence.
Whether we're remodeling a kitchen, designing a custom home, or furnishing a house you’re moving into, our goal remains the same: to create a home that feels well considered and perfectly suited for how you live your life.
-
Every project begins with a conversation.
We want to understand more than the scope of work. We want to understand how you live, what isn't working today, what inspired you to begin this project, and what success will look like when it's complete.
We'll discuss your goals, priorities, investment range, and timeline while introducing you to our design process. Just as importantly, we'll get to know one another. The strongest projects are built on open communication, and that starts from the very first meeting.
-
Before materials are selected or details are refined, we establish a clear design direction.
Using everything we've learned during Discovery, we begin exploring layouts, spatial relationships, and design concepts that respond to the way you live. This phase is about possibility. We test ideas, solve functional challenges, and develop a vision that feels authentic to your home rather than following a predetermined style.
-
Ideas become tangible when you can see them.
Through floor plans, 3D-renderings, finish palettes, and carefully considered material selections, we present a complete design that allows you to understand both the overall vision and the individual decisions that support it.
This is another important opportunity to deepen the conversation. Questions, refinements, and new insights are all part of the process. The goal isn't simply approval. It's confidence.
-
As the design develops, the details become increasingly important.
Dimensions are verified. Cabinetry is refined. Plumbing fixtures, lighting, hardware, and finish materials are coordinated so they work together as a complete system rather than a collection of individual selections.
This stage also produces the documentation that builders and trades rely on throughout construction. Careful planning at this point creates clarity for everyone involved and helps reduce unexpected changes later in the project.
-
Construction is where collaboration becomes essential.
Throughout the build, we work closely with architects, builders, contractors, fabricators, and skilled trades to help ensure the design is executed as intended. We answer questions, resolve details, review progress, and advocate for the integrity of the design as conditions inevitably evolve.
Our role is to keep the project moving forward while maintaining the vision established from the beginning.
-
The final layer is what transforms a completed project into a home.
Furniture, lighting, artwork, textiles, and accessories are thoughtfully installed to complement the architectural framework developed throughout the project. Every element is considered in relation to the whole, creating spaces that feel comfortable, cohesive, and supportive of the people who call them home.
The most rewarding part of our work isn't completing a project. It's seeing our clients experience their home in an entirely new way.

“I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience working with Jen Murrill and her talented team at Wheelhouse Designs. From the very beginning, Jen proved herself to be an exceptional interior designer who truly understood our vision for our new luxury home.
Jen's ability to listen and comprehend our taste in decor was truly remarkable. She took the time to get to know us, our preferences, and our lifestyle, and it clearly showed in her design choices. Her attention to detail is impeccable, and she consistently went above and beyond to make sure every aspect of our project was handled with the utmost care and expertise.”

“Jen and her team did an almost complete remodel of our home and did an amazing job. They were very thoughtful in their design recommendations, gave several options for furnishings/decorations which were all beautiful and mindful of our budget and kept the contractors in the loop so that the buildout went smoothly. We could not be more pleased with our home and would recommend Jen and the Wheelhouse crew for any project.”

“This teams attention to detail, use of products, and overall show of true care when working with a client is un-parallel. You can teach a skillset but when you truly care about what you do, a passion is formed and that is what makes the greats like this company stand out from others.”
